Kayla escapes from the photo shoot to the bathroom.

Kayla invades Reid's tubby time and knocked all the soap bottles into the tub. They both thought this game was hilarious!

She grabbed the make-up brush herself...hee hee

See my necklace and bracelet? They are from Auntie Kristi!

And Now a Few Pictures...

This is a great shot of Reid, just before he got a little nervous about having his cast cut off. 5 Weeks in the cast and he had just started to get used to it. He was really brave about the whole thing.

A week after Reid got his cast off, Kayla was in the ER for 6 hours. Jeff had spilled blood pressure medication on the floor and missed a few when he was picking up. Kayla was found next to them when I got out of the shower so I had to call Poison Control, not knowing if she had eaten any. Thank God that she hadn't and was just fine. She was such a trooper the whole time we were in the hospital. We had LOTS of visits from the staff. I think everyone who walked by the door stopped in to comment on how cute she was. :)

I LOVE this picture! They are sweet!

April Vacation update

I just sent Reid to get Jessica's phone; he can be very very helpful! We've had quite a bit of fun just hanging out this week although both kids have been running fevers. I think he'll be awake longer than Jessica because of his early evening nap.

I had the pleasure of sleeping on Kayla's floor last night. She was having a hard time getting to sleep. We spent from 11:30 pm until about 3:00 am alternately playing and sleeping. She would play a little and then lay down 'loving her blanket and end up falling asleep.

When she's not trying to deprive us of sleep, she can shake her head 'no', receive high-5's, blow kisses and some of the time say 'hi dadda'.

We're preparing for their 1st and 4th birthdays with a party May 21st. Reid is always telling us what he wants for his birthday; usually in the middle of of the most recent commercial.

Casting Call; Reid DeJongh

Reid says "Cheeeeze" as he's waiting for the first layer of his cast. I picked him up from day care at noon yesterday because he was still running a fever of 102 F. The fever was not due to the fractured arm.
Another 'smile' as he has the sock on his arm and is holding his blue fiberglass cast kit.
It's hard to see but they first put a white layer of fiberglass and wrapped it between his thumb and index finger. This will allow him a lot more mobility in his left hand.
The cast is complete and nearly dry. This will be on for at least 2 weeks. We see the orthopedic Doctor then and they take another x-ray to monitor the healing. With luck, the cast will only be on for 3 weeks.

Just so you know that Kayla is alive and well; I have a picture for her in the tub last night.
It's not the clearest picture because I took it with my phone, in lower light, and she was moving. Jess is thrilled with how curly her hair is when it's wet.

Broken Arm

Reid was playing with Nolan, jumping off his bed. He fell and did the above to his arm. You can see that the arm looks distorted above the wrist. We immedicately drove to the emergency room. He cried the whole way there so was exhausted. He fell asleep while waiting for the x-rays to be taken.

By the time they were ready for us, Reid was sound asleep. I had to hold him in my lap, positioning his left arm and using my other arm to prop his head up and out of the way while the x-ray was taken. He was found to have a green-stick fracture.

Once he fell back asleep after they formed a splint and wrapped it with ace bandage, it was a good night. He did wake once and it took about 20 minutes to get him calmed back down. We all slept until 8:30 am; a miracle in our house!

You can see that the splint/cast didn't slow him down a whole lot. He find that if he moved his splinted arm too much it started to hurt again. We have a schedule an appointment with an orthopedic doctor tomorrow. They will be able to tell us whether he'll need a cast and how long the healing will occur.

It's Been Awhile...

We had a wonderful Christmas season with a trip to Michigan and an "at home" Christmas when we returned. We hope to add more pictures soon. There is only time for a quick update today.

Reid has become "Big Brother Extrordinaire". He plays tea party with Kayla and includes her in his car or dragon games. He is so good to her. He still grabs at her hands and wants to interact when she is too tired or just tired of him and this makes her crabby. I think he is figuring it out though and is beginning to give her more space when she needs it.
Reid is beginning to write circles and lines that are more meaningful than just the scribbling we have been seeing. He is still reluctant to trace his name but he will when he is ready. A sticker chart may be put in use soon to help motivate him to try. He will start pre-school in the fall so we want him to have some familiarity with holding a pencil and writing letter lines.

Kayla (aka: LooLoo, K-Bomb, Petunia, Tunie, Punum, Baby Kayla, Pontipine (we are beginning to wonder why we bother to name our children...)) is growing up too fast. She has 'quit' pureed baby food and only wants to eat what we are eating. She holds her own bottle and if we put food on a spoon and hand it to her, she puts it in her mouth and feeds herself. She has also decided to not try to crawl and go straight to walking. She isn't walking yet but she wants to. She hold onto our hands and moves her feet forward on her own and wants to stand and hold onto furniture instead of sitting down to play. Reid was never this stubborn...a girl true and true!
